What it checks
Eight things buyers, carriers and search engines look for
Each rule is worth points. Rules that don't apply to your kind of company are left out, so your score is out of 100 for the rules that do.
| Area | What it looks for | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| FMCSA record | Your USDOT number shown as text (carriers, brokers and movers), your MC number (brokers), FMCSA showing your registration as active, your site using the name FMCSA has on file, and for interstate movers, links to FMCSA's two mover brochures. | Shippers, carriers and customers look you up on SAFER before they call. |
| Readable without JavaScript | Your homepage's text in the HTML your server sends, no noindex tag, a real page title, a meta description and one main heading. | Search engines read the HTML first, and most AI crawlers read nothing else. |
| Open to AI search | robots.txt letting in seven AI agents (GPTBot, OAI-SearchBot, ChatGPT-User, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot, Google-Extended and Applebot-Extended), and a sitemap search engines can find. | An assistant can't recommend a site its crawler was turned away from. |
| Security and address | Your own domain, HTTPS on every visit, one main address (www or not, never both) and a page set up for phones. | Browsers warn visitors off sites without HTTPS, and split addresses split your search signals. |
| Paths for customers and carriers | A clear way to ask for a quote or estimate, and for brokers, a carrier setup link. | The two things buyers and carriers come to the site to do. |
| Contact details | A phone number on the homepage, an email address and your business address, as text. | Customers call first, and search engines match your address to your map listing and FMCSA record. |
| Business details for search | Organization or LocalBusiness structured data on the homepage. | It hands search engines and AI assistants your name, phone and address in a form they read directly. |
| Email authentication | SPF and DMARC records on your domain. | Without them anyone can send mail that looks like yours, and your own quotes land in spam more often. |
How it works
What the check reads, and what it doesn't
The check loads your homepage the way a search engine's crawler does, without running JavaScript, then your robots.txt, your sitemap, the http and www versions of your address, and a contact and an about page. It looks up your USDOT or MC number in FMCSA's public data, and your domain's email records.
A rule that's fully there earns its points, one that's partly there earns some, and one that doesn't apply to you is left out of the score. The screen shows what it saw for each rule. The emailed report explains each issue in plain English and says what to fix first, worded for the builder you name.
It doesn't judge your design, your photos or your prices, and it never names the tool your site was built with. A good score means search engines and buyers can find the basics, not that the site will rank.
It reads
- Your homepage, as a crawler sees it
- robots.txt and your sitemap
- Your contact and about pages
- Your FMCSA record
- Your domain's SPF and DMARC records
Questions
Website check questions
Is the Logistics Website Check free?
Yes. The score and the list of what to fix are free on screen, with no sign-up. If you want the full report, with every issue explained and what to fix first, enter your email and it comes in one email from nic@s4l.io.
Why does it ask for my USDOT or MC number?
To look up your public FMCSA record and compare it with your site: whether the registration is active and whether your site uses the name FMCSA has on file. Both are optional. If your homepage shows a number, the check finds it there.
My site looks fine. Why is my score low?
The check reads your site the way a search engine's crawler does, without running JavaScript. Some builders, AI app builders especially, send a nearly empty page and fill it in with scripts, so the text you see never reaches the crawler. The rest is detail a visitor doesn't see: structured data, robots.txt, email records.
Does it work with Wix, Squarespace, WordPress or Lovable?
It works with any site at a public address. It never tries to work out what your site was built with. You can tell it, and the emailed report then words its fixes for that tool.
Does the check change anything on my site?
No. It only reads public pages and records: your homepage, a contact and an about page, robots.txt, your sitemap, your domain's email records and FMCSA's public data. It doesn't log in or fill in any forms.
What happens to my email address?
It's used to send the report you asked for. Nothing automatic follows it: no mailing list and no sequence. If you tick the box, Nicolas may write to you himself. Your results link works for 90 days.
